Onam, the magnificent national festival of Kerala, is a time-honored celebration that paints the canvas of culture with vibrant colors. Rooted in mythology and cherished for generations, it celebrates the golden era of King Mahabali, whose benevolence and rule brought prosperity and unity to the land.

🌿 A Brief History of Onam 🌿

Historically Onam traces back to the time when Kerala flourished under the rule of the virtuous King Mahabali. His reign was marked by abundance, harmony, and inclusivity. However, the gods, fearing his growing power, tricked him into the underworld. Onam, as we celebrate it today, signifies King Mahabali's annual return to his beloved people, symbolizing the prosperity and unity he embodied.

🌸 Day 1: Attam - Embarking on a Floral Journey 🌸 

The “flag-off “of Onam is under the benevolent Attam star. That day Attappookkalam, the beautiful floral carpet, is really a reflection of the Ayurvedic world it symbolize the harmony between nature and well-being.The Ayurvedic plants of Kerala – Tulsi, Sankhapushpi, Nandyarvattom, Tumba (Lucas aspira) etc Mandaram –reminding us the time tested wisdom our ancestors entrusted with.

🌿 Days 2-9: In the subsequent days, we traverse to Onam, where nature's gifts heal and rejuvenate through herbal and floral varities.  We can use different flowers according to availability and choices are different in different situations.

🌟 The Significance of Onam Attire 🌟

As we celebrate Onam's radiant spirit, the traditional attire of Onam, is with its distinct Kasavu patterns, carries a profound significance. Women elegantly drape themselves in the Set Saree, a symbol of grace and tradition. Men embrace the Mundu Neryathu, embodying the essence of simplicity and authenticity. The Kasavu dress unites us in a spectrum of colors, weaving together the threads of our heritage and fostering a sense of collective identity.

The Kasavu dress is more than just clothing; it's a canvas that showcases Kerala's artistic finesse. The golden borders symbolize the abundance and prosperity that King Mahabali symbolized, while the white expanse represents purity and harmony. 🍚 Day 10: Thiruvonam - Feast of Flavors 🍚

On Thiruvonam, the grand finale awaits! Just as Ayurveda prescribes a balanced diet, the Onam Sadya showcases a harmonious blend of tastes and textures. The diversity of dishes, from Sambar's balance to Aviyal's unity, Thoran's variety to Pachadi's equilibrium, and Kichadi's synergy, all culminate in the sweet embrace of Payasam and the crunch of Pappad.
